[Photo News] Korea begins big cleanup as Typhoon Prapiroon passes

Cleanup efforts have started after Typhoon Prapiroon tore through the southern region of the Korean Peninsula from Saturday to Monday, leaving three dead, three injured and one missing.

A total of 85 public buildings and facilities, such as rivers, roads, ports and schools, were destroyed when Prapiroon hit South Jeolla Province, North Jeolla Province and Jeju. The heavy rain also caused many residential buildings and farmland to be submerged in water.

With the help of government officials, shaken residents are piecing their homes and businesses back together. Authorities said debris cleanup and facilities’ restoration are nearly 80 percent finished.

Typhoon Prapiroon is expected to exit the peninsula by 9 p.m. Wednesday, passing through the northeast side of Dokdo islets, according to the Ministry of Interior and Safety.
