Samsung Electronics is helping single parents become self-sustained through mentoring and the provision of home appliances necessary for child rearing. 

On Tuesday, employees of Samsung’s home appliance division visited Aeranwon, a non-profit organization for single parents, to deliver its large-sized dryer “Grande” and baby care washers, according to the tech firm.

Aeranwon is an organization set up in 1960 with the aim of protecting women and helping them to be self-sustained. Now, it is helping single parents and their children who face financial difficulties but do not receive support from society and families.

“Samsung’s home appliances, especially beneficial during this rainy season, will help Aeranwon families live pleasantly,” said Kang Young-sil, director of the organization.

Samsung’s home appliance division executive Kim Hyun-sook said, “We will continue to encourage more employees to participate in social activities and support community centers.”

Also, throughout the month of March, more than 60,000 Samsung employees participated in volunteer work to mark the company’s 80th anniversary, which falls on March 22. They participated in volunteer activities in the areas of community centers, education, farming and fishing villages and village environment.

A Samsung spokesperson said the employees participated in around 1,500 community centers nationwide and financial supports of around 7.5 billion won ($6.7 million) is slated to be provided to the people in need by July.
