DAEGU -- A suspected arson attack in a karaoke room in South Korea's southeastern city of Daegu on Tuesday killed a male client and injured four others, police said.

The fire broke out inside the underground salon at around 4:44 a.m., according to police. The "noraebang" parlor was gutted before the blaze was put out about 20 minutes later.

A 56-year-old man was found dead near the salon's counter. Four others, including its 60-year-old female owner, were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

Police suspect an arson attack because the woman told police her ex-boyfriend set the fire and there was a smell of inflammable substance near the counter.

Police examined CCTV footage and questioned witnesses to determine the cause.

Noraebangs are places that rent out rooms equipped with sing-along sound systems, usually including a video monitor. (Yonhap)
