Kimilsung University, North Korea's most prestigious faculty, trumpeted its achievements Wednesday, particularly in the areas of afforestation and aerospace, for performing in accordance with North Korea leader Kim Jong-un's guidelines over the past year.

Ri Kuk-chol, vice president of the university in Pyongyang, made the boast in an article contributed to the Rodong Sinmun, daily newspaper of the ruling Workers' Party, on the occasion of the first anniversary of a piece of "elaborate" writing by the North Korean leader titled "On the Basic Duties of Kim Il-sung University in the New Era of Juche Revolution." Juche means self-reliance.

"We've detailed tasks presented in the writing into some 100 projects, and have struggled in a big way to realize them in the shortest time and at the highest level," Ri said.

During the one-year period, the faculty launched a forest science college and scores of related departments and research centers. It also completed education programs to nurture the aerospace elite, he said.

Ri also said the university published some 2,000 books and papers; manufactured hi-tech products, such as a quantum crypto-communication device, a Raman microscope and a CNC plasma cutter; and addressed hundreds of problems for factories and businesses.

Since its beginning, the Kim regime has been making big investments in research and education in order to make the country a powerhouse of science and technology. (Yonhap)
