Hyundai Motor Company Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun attended this year’s 2017 World Economic Forum, held in Davos, Switzerland from Jan. 17 to 20.

Chung joined in on key sessions with the forum’s automotive committee, sharing his analysis of some of the industry’s top trends, including eco-friendly cars and autonomous vehicles, according to a press statement released by Hyundai on Thursday.

The vice chairman reportedly met privately with CEOs of major global automakers, gauging future automotive trends and cooperation -- in particular, autonomous vehicles. 

Chung is said to have shown keen interest in the forum’s session on the “Future of Urban and Autonomous Mobility,” which focused on self-driving vehicles and their capacity to alter an entire city’s transportation system.

The World Economic Forum came just two weeks after the Korean automaker giant unveiled its Ionic Electric autonomous car for the first time at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, held from Jan. 5 to 8.

With the emergence of fully autonomous vehicles, the technology for advanced driver assistance systems is developing rapidly, according to the company. 

Hyundai Motor Company says it plans to fully commercialize autonomous cars by 2030 and will invest some 2 trillion won ($1.69 billion) in the smart car sector.
