Major Korean broadcaster MBC will open a new hallyu theme park on Sept. 5, complete with hologram K-pop concerts, virtual reality drama sets and photo booths.
A set of the traditional Korean court has been recreated to allow visitors to experience what it is like to appear in Korean period dramas and “be transported back in time,” said MBC in a press release. Located at MBC headquarters in Sangam-dong, northern Seoul, “MBC World” aims to offer an entertaining attraction to tourists visiting Korea and fill the void for immersive hallyu experiences.

Many tourists come to the country pursuing their love for hallyu content, but find that few hallyu-related activities are available, and simply end up shopping instead, MBC said in a press release.

The theme park’s main attractions include the hologram theater, where holograms of K-pop stars such as G-Dragon and Psy appear on stage just a few steps from the audience. Visitors can also experience being on stage with K-pop stars in holographic form and learn dance moves from them.

The 360-degree virtual reality theater allows visitors to experience being in hit MBC variety shows such as “Infinite Challenge,” “Real Men,” and “Radio Star,” as well as period pieces including “Jewel in the Palace” and “Moon Embracing the Sun.” A virtual tour of the MBC broadcasting studio will also be available.

MBC estimates the theme park will attract over 130,000 visitors a year. Visits are to be reserved in advance.
