Epik High tops charts at home, aboard with new album

South Korean hip-hop trio Epik High swept local music charts and iTunes albums charts in seven regions with its first full-length album in two years on Tuesday.
Hours after the group’s eighth studio album, “Shoebox,” was released on online music sites at home and abroad, the album’s title track “Happen Ending” sat atop real-time charts of eight domestic services, including Melon, Naver Music, Olleh Music, Genie, Soribada and Mnet.
Other songs on the album such as “Born Hater,” “Spoiler” and “Rich” also placed highly on the charts.
The album also topped iTunes albums charts in seven countries or regions ― Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Taiwan and Vietnam ― while ranking 32nd in the United States. It took 7th spot on the iTunes hip-hop R&B chart in the U.S. and 2nd on the same chart in Canada.
The trio ― Tablo, Mithra Jin and DJ Tukutz ― self-produced all 12 songs on “Shoebox.” The album is due to hit record stores Wednesday, according to the band‘s management agency, YG Entertainment.
“Thank you for letting us do the music again. We love you,” Tablo wrote on his Twitter account.
The trio is scheduled to hold two solo concerts titled “Parades” at the Blue Square theater in Hannam-dong, Seoul, on Nov. 15-16. They would mark the group’s first solo concerts in five years. (Yonhap)
