2014 브라질월드컵에서 별다른 활약을 펼치지 못하고 벨기에전에서는 벤치를 지켰던 박주영(29)이 소속팀 아스널에서 방출된다.
박주영의 소속팀 잉글랜드 프로축구 아스널은 26일(한국시간) 구단 홈페이지를 통해 방출 선수 11명을 공개했다. 박주영은 니클라스 벤트너, 킴 칼스트롬과 함께 계약만료 선수로 분류돼 방출이 확정됐다. 아스널은 이미 박주영과의 결별을 선언하고 공식 발표만 미뤄왔다.
이에 따라 박주영은 다음달 1일부터 소속팀이 없는 '무적 선수'로 분류된다.
아스날은 결별이 확정된 선수들에게 동고동락한데 대한 감사의 인사를 전하며 "앞으로 더 좋은 기회가 찾아오길 바란다"고 전했다.
박주영은 지난 2011년 8월 아스널에 입단하며 프리미어리그 무대를 밟았다. 입단 첫 해 칼링컵에서 데뷔골을 넣는 등 자리를 잡는가 싶었지만 결국 리그 1경기 출전에 그치며 기회를 잡지 못했고, 결국 이듬해 스페인 프리메라리가 셀타 비고에 임대됐다.

Park Ju-young to leave Arsenal
South Korean striker Park Ju-young of the English premier league Arsenal team is likely to be transferred, according to a foreign news outlet.
The Telegraph reported Thursday that strikers Nicklas Bendtner and Park Ju-young were among 11 players who were confirmed to be leaving Arsenal.
The daily, quoting Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, as saying that he wants to recruit two strikers this transfer window, with Loïc Rémy an increasingly viable option alongside a second more expensive signing.
Despite winning the FA Cup and qualifying for the Champions League, Arsenal lacked their usual attacking quality last season and Wenger knows that he cannot continue to rely so heavily on Olivier Giroud as the main centre-forward, the report said. (From news reports)
