Ford Sales and Service Korea, the local importer and distributor of U.S. automaker Ford Motor Co., is recalling more than 2,200 Escape sport utility vehicles for problems with their airbags, door handles and cooling systems, the transportation ministry said Monday.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, side airbags of the vehicle may fail to deploy due to a software problem.

The problem has been identified in 859 Ford Escapes produced between May 22, 2012, and Jan. 31, 2014.

Defective door handles were found in 933 Ford Escapes produced between Feb. 22, 2012, and April 6, 2014.

The ministry said insufficient cooling systems have been found in 424 Ford Escapes produced between July 28, 2012, and March 1, 2013. Free repair services will be available from Tuesday at any Ford service center throughout the country.

The ministry also said the local importer of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles was recalling 129 Range Rover luxury SUVs produced between Aug. 16, 2012, and March 18, 2013, for airbag problems. (Yonhap)
