Wayne Shorter, one of the greatest saxophonists in the history of jazz and a 10-time Grammy winner, will stage his second live concert with the Wayne Shorter Quartet at the LG Arts Center in Seoul on April 12.

The Wayne Shorter Quartet’s first performance in Korea in 2010 was entirely impromptu, with the pure improvisation dazzling local audiences at the time.

The veteran ensemble will return to Seoul once again next week, with new jazz sounds, fresh interpretations and innovative compositions.

The Wayne Shorter Quartet features leader Wayne Shorter on saxophone, John Patitucci on bass, Danilo Perez on piano and Brian Blade on drums. All have received critical acclaim in the international jazz scene over the past decades.

Wayne Shorter, who turned 81 this year, launched his musical career in 1964 as part of the legendary American jazz band the Miles Davis Quintet alongside fellow musicians Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams and Ron Carter.

Shorter has been acclaimed for not only playing saxophone, but also his talent as a composer. He has been credited with bringing revolutionary changes to the field of jazz with his experimental sounds and compositions mixing jazz with diverse music genres. The saxophone legend also recently won an award for the “Best Improvised Jazz Solo” at the Grammy Awards this year, his 10th Grammy to date.

Bassist John Patitucci has been nominated for a Grammy eight times with his solo albums and collaborations with Chick Corea, while jazz pianist Danilo Perez has been praised as the next Herbie Hancock, a veteran pianist and architect of modern jazz. Drummer Brian Blade was awarded “International Artist of the Year ― Drums/Percussion” at Germany’s ECHO Jazz Awards in 2013.

Ticket prices for the upcoming Wayne Shorter Quartet concert range from 40,000 won to 110,000 won. For more information, call (02) 2005-0114 or visit www.lgart.com.
