세계적으로 유명한 ‘딸바보’ 사진작가 데이브 잉글도우가 딸과 찍은 사진들이 인터넷에서 화제다. 딸 엘리스 비가 태어나던 2010년부터 현재 2014년까지 재미있는 컨셉으로 수 백장의 사진을 찍어, 오는 5월 6일에는 책으로 발간된다.
‘세계 최고 아빠’라는 프로젝트를 계획한 이유는 딸에게 좋은 추억을 남겨주기 위해서라며 진정한 “딸바보”임을 인증했다. 잠에 취한 초보아빠의 모습을 담은 사진이 페이스북에서 유명해 지면서 잉글도우와 엘리스는 인터넷상뿐만 아니라 방송에서도 유명인사가 됐다.
현재 용산미군부대에서 근무중인 아내의 영향을 받아 잉글도우는 한국문화를 ‘세계 최고 아빠’시리즈에 그대로 반영해 화제가 되기도 했다. 엘리스 비가 한복을 입고 세배를 하는 사진, 싸이의 ‘강남스타일’을 패러디한 사진, 막걸리 마시기, 김치먹기, 신라면 먹기, 쌈장에 고추 찍어 먹기 등 한국 본토의 느낌이 완연한 사진들도 있어 한국문화에 대한 해외 잉글도우 팬들의 관심을 폭증시켰다.
2010년부터 2013년까지 찍은 사진들 중 174장의 사진을 엄선해 책으로 출판되는 ‘세계 최고 아빠’시리즈는 벌써부터 외신들의 찬사를 자아내고 있다. 커뮤니티 뉴스서비스 버즈피드는 “인터넷아, 너희가 가장 좋아할만한 새로운 아빠가 나타났다”라고 전했으며 뉴욕데일리뉴스는 “[데이브 잉글도우]가 가족사진의 새시대를 열었다”라며 극찬했다.
현재 ‘세계 최고 아빠’시리즈 책은 아마존에서 예약구매가 진행 중이다.

‘World’s Best Father’ series captures Korean culture
The popular photographer Dave Engledow started a project called “World’s Best Father” when his daughter Alice Bee was born in 2010. His aim was to create a memorable collection that his daughter could cherish even as an adult.
The photos are taken in a hilarious and creative way and edited with Photoshop as much as possible to enhance each particular shot. Many of the photos have a humorous concept: in one of them, he cradled “8-week-old Alice Bee like a football and doctored it to look like he’s squirting breast milk into a ‘World’s Best Father’ mug.”
Since Engledow’s wife is serving at Yongsan Garrison -- the headquarters for the U.S. military in South Korea, many of his photos capture the culture of Korea: Alice Bee doing a New Year’s bow in a hanbok, eating a chili pepper that she’s dipped in ssamjang and dancing like Psy.
Some of Engledow’s “World’s Best Father” photos were uploaded onto his Facebook page, which made him and Alice Bee Internet and television celebrities.
Engledow’s sweet collection of photos from the “World’s Best Father” series will be released in book form on May 6, 2014.
Regarding this upcoming collection of photos, BuzzFeed said, “Internet, meet your new favorite dad,” and New York Daily News credited Engledow’s creativeness as a photographer: “[Dave Engledow] takes family portraits to a whole new level.”
