女 연예인 수사사건 "곧 수사 마무리" 앞으로 행보는?

연예인 성매매 사건을 맡은 수원지검 안산지청은 17일, 루머 등 확대해석을 막겠다며 “올해 안에, 아니면 그 전이라도 수사를 마무리하겠다”고 밝혔다. 이에 따라 전국을 떠들썩하게 했던 연예인 성매매 스캔들 수사가 별 결과 없이 끝날 가능성도 높아졌다.

지난주 보도를 통해 실체가 드러났던 연예인 성매매 사건은 톱 탤런트를 포함해 여성 연예인 수십명이 재력가 남성을 통해 성매매를 했다는 것이었다. 검찰은 이와 관련해 연예계 관계자 A씨는 성매매 알선 브로커로 지목해 두 차례나 구속영장을 신청했다.

문제는 영장이 기각되면서 사건과 관련되어 입건된 인물이 넉달간의 수사기간동안 한 명도 나오지 않았다는 것이다. 연말까지 2주도 채 안 남은 이때 검찰이 새 증거를 확보해 피의자를 기소하는 것은 힘들어 보인다.

이에 따라 연예계에 만연한 성관련 스캔들을 잡겠다는 대의로 시작한 연예인 성매매 수사사건이 흐지부지 되는 것이 아닌가 하는 우려가 나오고 있다.

한편 성매매 스캔들이 확장됨에 따라 증권가 찌라시 등을 통해 여러 연예인들이 실명으로 언급되면서 피해를 입었음에도 불구하고 검찰 측에서 이를 부인하지 않아 소문이 퍼지게 팡지했다는 비판도 일고 있다.

또한 ‘안산지청발’로 정보가 계속 세어나오면서 검찰이 이러한 루머에 일부 책임이 있는게 아니냐는 시각도 있다.

고려대 하태훈(법학전문대학원) 교수는 언론과의 인터뷰를 통해 “엄정히 법을 집행해야 할 검찰이 피해자를 쏟아낸 꼴”이라고 비판했다.

Investigation into ‘celebrity prostitution’ appears to go nowhere

South Korea was recently shaken by reports that prosecutors are investigating a prostitution ring allegedly involving a host of well-known celebrities. Months of searching, however, have shown no conclusive results as investigators are moving to wrap it up.

The prosecutors’ office for Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, on Tuesday vowed to finish the investigation “within this year,” or possibly earlier. It said that it needs to prevent the far-fetched rumors from spreading.

If the prosecution’s resolve to speedily end the ongoing investigation into the scandal holds, it is likely that it will not bear much fruit. Some four months into the investigation, not one person has been booked or indicted yet.

Prosecutors applied for an arrest warrant for a person believed to be the broker of the prostitution ring, but was denied by the court. With just two weeks left in the year, it is unlikely the investigation will find a breakthrough.

As the case goes around in circles, a series of rumors about the celebrities suspected to be involved in the prostitution ring are circulating in local online communities.

Actresses rumored to have taken part in the ring are threatening to take legal action against those who spread the false rumors. Some are placing part of the blame on the prosecution, as it showed reluctance to deny any of the rumors.
