A gallery in Gwangju is running an art workshop on Sunday for people to create art that will later be sold to raise money for charity.

The work will be used in an art show on Dec. 8 from 5 p.m. at Gungdabang Gallery, alongside a general flea market.

Money raised will go to Kilimanjaro Direct, which helps students in Tanzania, and toward the Philippine Red Cross’s efforts to help typhoon victims.

Co-organizer Timothy Han said he had a personal connection to Kilimanjaro Direct, which was set up by his friend's mother.

One-half of the donations will be going to a school for underprivileged students in the Kilimanjaro region (www.kilimanjarodirect.org), and the other half will go to the Red Cross for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines (www.redcross.org.ph).

Han said that limited basic supplies of paper, paint and similar materials would be provided, but encouraged people to bring their own. He added that he planned to sell Christmas card sets at the event.

The Open Art Workshop will run from Dec. 8 to 22 at Gungdabang Gallery in Gung-dong. To find out more, visit the event’s Facebook page.
