BMW Korea unveiled the 4 Series Coupe on Thursday at an event in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
Styled by Korean designer Kang Won-kyu, the all-new 4 Series Coupe is longer, lower, wider and more efficient than the outgoing 3 Series Coupe.
“The 4 Series Coupe will be an attention getter on the road. The flowing roof emphasizes its masculine shoulder and voluminous body,” said Kang.
He added that five Korean designers are working at BMW.
The production model, which went on sale on the day, shares many of the characteristics of its concept that was revealed during the Detroit Auto Show in January.
The so-called Air Breather vents behind the front wheels have been kept to reduce downstream drag around the wheel arches, which works with the Air Curtain to improve overall aerodynamics.
In Korea, two engine trims are available: On top of the diesel-powered 420d, the rear-drive 428i is fitted with the carmaker’s 2.0-liter 240-horsepower TwinPower Turbo engine.
According to BMW Korea CEO Kim Hyo-joon, about 100 preorders have already been made for the new car.
“We predict 200 unit sales this year and 800 next year,” he said.
