페이스북의 최고운영책임자(COO) 셰릴 샌드버그가 6일(현지시각) 샌프란시스코에 불시착한 아시아나 항공기 214편에 탈뻔했지만 예약을 바꾼 것으로 밝혀졌다.

“나의 가족, 그리고 내 동료들과 나는 원래 방금 불시착한 아시아나 항공을 타기로 예약되어 있었다,”고 본인의 페이스북 페이지를 통해 전했다.

샌드버그는 원래 예약을 했던 아시아나 항공에서 본인의 가족을 위한 마일리지를 쌓기 위해 유나이티드 항공사로 바꿨다. 그녀가 탄 여객기는 두 명의 사상자를 낳은 아시아나 항공기가 불시착하기 20분 전에 같은 공항에 착륙했다.

그녀가 실시간으로 전한 “거의 죽을 뻔한 사건”은 많은 사람들로부터 안도의 숨을 내쉬게 했으며 이들은 “신께 감사한다,”는 등의 반응을 보였다. 하지만, 몇 명의 트위터 사용자들은 불편한 심경을 밝히기도 했다.

“페이스북 COO가 SFO비행기에 안 탄 것이 뉴스가 아니라, 그곳에 있는 불쌍한 영혼들에게 집중해달라,”라고 한 트위터 유저는 말했다.

또한, “당시 사고기에 탑승했던 사람들의 소식이 궁금할 뿐이다,”라는 반응도 있었다.

샌드버그는 수요일부터 3일 동안 그녀의 저서 “Lean In,” 홍보차 한국을 방문했으며, 2주전 페이스북 최고경영자 마크 주커버그의 방한을 잇는 차원에서 삼성전자와 만남을 갖기도 했다.

Facebook’s Sandberg came close to be onboard crashed Asiana flight 

Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg said on her Facebook that she was originally booked for the Asiana Airlines flight that crash landed in San Francisco International Airport on Sunday.

“My family, colleagues Debbie Frost, Charlton Gholson and Kelly Hoffman and I were originally going to take the Asiana flight that just crash-landed,” said Sandberg on her Facebook page. 

The social networking giant’s COO said she switched to a United Airlines flight in order to collect mileage for her family members. The flight carrying Sandberg landed in San Francisco 20 minutes before the Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 crashed landed on the runway and reportedly killed two people.

While her real-time post on Facebook about coming close to being in the deadly accident received many sympathetic comments, some Twitter users expressed discomfort about her comment.

“News shouldn’t be about the Facebook COO not being on the SFO plane crash. Focus on the poor souls who were (there),” wrote one Twitter user. 

“I only care about the people (who) actually were on the plane,” another user replied to Sandberg‘s comment. 

Sandberg was on a three-day business trip to Seoul from Wednesday to promote her new book “Lean In.” She held a meeting with Samsung Electronics as a follow-up to Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg’s visit to the Korean tech giant two weeks ago.
