북한 남성에게 인기 있는 여성배우자의 자격은 예전부터 출신성분이 좋은 여성이었지만, 최근 이러한 기준이 “탈북자의 가족”으로 바뀐 것으로 알려졌다.

북한소식 전문매체 뉴포커스(www.newfocus.co.kr)에 의하면 탈북자들이 증언을 통해 요즘남녀가 만날 때, 은근슬쩍 “탈북자가 가족 중에 있냐”는 질문을 한다고 전했다.

이는 마치 한국의 70년대에 가족을 부양하기 위해 공장으로 일을 하러 나가던 일명 “공순이”처럼 “탈북자”가 여겨지고 있음을 뜻한다. 자신 하나를 희생해서 가족을 살리겠다는 일념으로 중국에 머물며 수단과 방법을 가리지 않고 돈을 벌어 고향으로 돈을 보내는 탈북자가 배우자의 가족 중에 있으면, 결혼하기가 수월하다는 것이다

특히 탈북자 중에서도 한국으로 간 사람이 있는 가족의 여성이 가장 인기라고 한다. 북한 주민은 이웃 중 한 명이 탈북해서 한국으로 갔다는 말을 들으며 ‘얼마나 좋을까!’라며 대놓고 부러움을 표현한다고 한 탈북자는 증언했다.

이 같은 현상에 대해 탈북자들은 “그만큼 북한이 살기 어려워졌으며 한국이 살기 좋다는 사실을 북한주민도 알고 있다는 뜻” 이라며 아무리 북한이 월북자 인터뷰를 통해 한국을 비하한다고 해도 그것을 믿는 북한주민은 없다는 것이 탈북자들의 주장이다. (코리아 헤럴드)

North Korean men used to consider women from a family of high social class as apt candidates for their wives. However, the latest trend in the North is a preference for brides who have defectors in their families, according to a news report on June 12.

“There used to be a time when even mentioning the word ‘defector’ was considered a taboo. These days, however, men discreetly ask women if they have a family member who is a defector,” said the sources.

As hard as it is to maintain a living in North Korea just like the South in the 1970s, defectors to South Korea or China are considered scapegoats to take care of their families just like the factory girls in South Korea in the past.

“Even if the North Korea publicly disparages the South, nobody buys the story now. We all know that South Korea is a better place to live,” said one of the defectors.
