Unidentified shapes recently found in a small U.S. town are stirring talk of aliens, livescience.com reported Tuesday.

According to the report, Peggy Gervase from Eden, New York found an unusual pattern -- which resembled large polka dots -– in snow covering a pond near her home.

The shape is reminiscent of mysterious crop circles, which are regarded to some as evidence of extraterrestrial life forms.

“I‘ve never seen this before in our pond... It’s eerie in a way, but cool in a way,” Gervase said in an interview with local TV station WGRZ.

The photos were uploaded on her Facebook page, where they garnered over 40,000 views and over 200 comments. Gervase said some even suggested alien presence or a secret government experiment.

When the local TV broadcaster sought her opinion on the alien intervention, she simply said, “I‘m not that far gone yet.”

It is also likely that the shapes were created via mundane causes, such as warmer water sprouting from natural springs below the pond, or gases created by decaying vegetation at the bottom of the pond.

거바스는 이 사진을 올리자 많은 사람들이 외계인, 혹은 정부의 비밀 실험을 의심했다고 말했다. 그러나 그녀 자신은 외계인의 소행이라고 믿지 않는다고 밝혔다.

라이브사이언스닷컴은 이 정체불명의 원들이 외계인이 아니라 연못 밑의 온천에서 나오는 온기나 밑에 있는 식물들이 썩으면서 나온 가스로 인해 눈이 녹아 생겨났을 가능성이 크다고 보도했다.
