Arsenal threw away a winning position to draw 2-2 with Premier League rival Swansea following a late goal flurry in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.

Michu slotted Swansea ahead with a neat finish the 58th minute, but Lukas Podolski leveled in the 81st and Kieran Gibbs volleyed Arsenal in front inside two minutes after playing a one-two with Mikel Arteta.

But after Podolski only half-cleared a corner, Danny Graham pounced to equalize in the 87th and the sides will have to contest a replay.

 “We should have won this game ... we lacked a little bit (of) calmness and focus,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. “It’s frustrating to concede a goal just like that on a corner where we couldn’t clear the ball before the corner.”

In Sunday’s other game, Liverpool faces non-league club Mansfield.

At the Liberty Stadium, former Arsenal defender Kyle Bartley had the best chance of the first half for Swansea when he headed against the crossbar and the match only came to life after the break when the intensity increased from both teams.

 “The first half was a bit locked and one-paced, as much as the second half became much more open,” Wenger said.

It was Swansea substitute Michu who broke the deadlock after barely a minute on the pitch.

The Spaniard headed the ball past Laurent Koscielny and charged forward before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Laurent Koscielny.

Arsenal came close to leveling when Olivier Giroud headed wide, but the goal did come after Swansea failed to clear Theo Walcott’s corner.

Bacary Sagna headed on to Laurent Koscielny, who knocked the ball through to Podolski and the Germany forward fired past goalkeeper Michel Vorm.

The visitors went in front after slick buildup saw Gibbs pass to Arteta, who returned the ball to the defender to blast into the net.

 “Kieran Gibbs had an outstanding game,” Wenger said. “He gets better and better. When you see this kind of game, it’s very positive.”

But Arsenal held on to its lead for less than four minutes, with Graham scoring after Kemy Agustien’s corner wasn’t headed away successfully by Podolski.

In the fourth round, Swansea or Arsenal will play at Brighton, the second-tier side which ousted Newcastle on Saturday. (AP)

기성용, 강호 아스널 상대로 활약!

잉글랜드 프로축구 스완지시티에서 뛰는 기성용이 강팀 아스널을 상대로 시즌 2호 도움을 기록했다.

기성용은 6일 영국 웨일스의 리버티 스타디움에서 열린 아스널과의 2012-2013 잉글랜드 축구협회(FA) 컵 대회 3라운드(64강) 홈 경기에서 1-2로 뒤지고 있던 후반 42분 팀을 위기에서 구하는 어시스트로 2-2 동점골을 도왔다.

페널티 지역 안쪽에서 공을 잡은 기성용은 골대 근처에 있던 대니 그래험에게 패스를 연결했고, 그래험은 오른발 슈팅으로 동점골을 터뜨렸다.

기성용은 1일 아스톤 빌라와의 정규리그에서 동점골을 어시스트한 데 이어 2경기 연속으로 도움을 전달했다.

스완지시티는 기성용의 도움에 힘입어 아스널과 2-2 무승부를 거뒀다.

수비형 미드필더로 출전해 90분을 모두 뛰면서 안정적으로 경기를 운영한 기성용은 기회가 생기면 적극적으로 공격에 가담했다.

도움을 기록하기 직전인 후반 41분에는 문전에서 강력한 오른발 슈팅을 날렸다. 이 슈팅은 상대 골키퍼에게 막혔지만 홈 팬의 뜨거운 응원을 이끌어냈다. 무승부를 거둔 스완지시티와 아스널은 FA컵 32강 진출을 놓고 재경기를 치른다.

전반까지만 해도 공격을 아끼던 양팀은 후반 이후 2골씩을 주고받으며 뜨거운 화력전을 펼쳤다.

먼저 포문을 연 것은 스완지시티의 대표 공격수 미추였다.

후반 10분 교체 투입된 미추는 그라운드를 밟은 지 2분 만인 후반 12분 중앙에서 번개처럼 침투해 골키퍼와의 1대1 상황을 만들었고 왼발 슈팅으로 선제골을 뽑아냈다.

하지만 아스널은 만만한 팀이 아니었다.

아스널은 후반 36분 루카스 포돌스키의 왼발 터닝슈팅과 후반 37분 키어런 깁스의 발리슈팅을 연달아 성공시키면서 단숨에 역전에 성공했다.

그러나 스완지시티는 패색이 짙던 후반 42분 기성용의 패스를 받은 그래험이 동점골을 꽂아 넣어 패배를 면하고 극적으로 재경기 기회를 잡았다. (연합뉴스)
