A book claiming to be the translation of the Bible that has filtered out all homophobic misinterpretation of the gospel has been recently published in the United States.
The editors of the controversial book, titled “Queen James Bible,” said that they revised the King James Bible to accurately translate verses related to homosexuality.
They pointed out that there are only eight verses in the Bible that are often cited as opposing same-sex relationships, but their interpretations were ambiguous.
“The Queen James Bible seeks to resolve interpretive ambiguity in the Bible as it pertains to homosexuality: We edited those eight verses in a way that makes homophobic interpretations impossible,” the editors claimed in the book’s website.
The website did not state the names of the book’s publisher, editor, or translators, but listed “God” as the author and “Jesus Christ” as a contributor.
Some scholars challenged the book’s claims that existing Bible translations were evasive of homosexuality.
Douglas J. Moo, Wessner Chair of Biblical Studies at Wheaton College and a professional Bible translator, said in an interview with the Christian Post that homosexuality is inferred in the Bible several times.
“For instance, the King James Version of Romans 1:27 refers to ‘men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly.’ It would be very difficult to deny that this language, and the language found in many other places in both the Old Testament and the New Testament, refers to homosexuality,” Moo said.

“예를 들어 킹 제임스 성경의 로마서 1장 27절은 ‘남자들도 순리대로 여인 쓰기를 버리고 서로 향하여 음욕이 불 일듯 하매 남자가 남자로 더불어 부끄러운 일을 행하여 저희의 그릇됨에 상당한 보응을 그 자신에 받았느니라’고 하고 있는데, 이 구절과 구약 및 신약성서에서 발견되는 수많은 구절들이 동성애를 암시하지 않는다고 하기는 매우 어려울 겁니다”라고 그는 지적했다.
