Singer Psy, who became the talk of the town thanks to his megahit song “Gangnam Style” throughout the globe, came back to Korea on Tuesday morning.

More than a hundred reporters from home and abroad gathered at Incheon International Airport to cover Psy’s entrance, demonstrating that he is now truly a global star.

At the airport, Psy told reporters that he was not certain at first whether he could succeed in the U.S., but he said he feels very grateful to get more than he had anticipated.

During his visit to the U.S., the world’s biggest music market, the music video for “Gangnam Style” recorded more than 260 million hits on YouTube, registering its name in the Guiness Book of Records. The song also marked 3rd place on the U.K.’s music chart, proving its popularity in Europe.

Starting with a press conference to announce what he has achieved so far and what his future plan is, the 35-year-old singer is expected to follow with a tight schedule including several concerts and commercial filmings.

Psy will depart to U.S. in mid-October after 15-day stay in Korea.

월드스타 싸이, 금의환향 하다!

‘강남스타일’의 선풍적인 인기에 힘입어 장안의 화제가 된 가수 싸이가 25일 오전 한국으로 돌아왔다.

그가 입국하는 인천국제공항에 백여명의 국내외 언론사 기자들이 운집해 진정한 ‘월드스타’의 반열에 오른 싸이의 위상을 확인할 수 있었다.

공항 입국장에서 싸이는 기자들에게 “처음에는 미국에서 성공할 수 있을지 걱정도 했었지만 지금은 생각했던 것 보다 더 많은 것을 얻게 되어 감사 드린다,”고 입국 소감을 밝혔다.

그의 미국방문 기간 동안 ‘강남스타일’ 뮤직비디오는 유투브에서 2억6천만 조회수를 기록하며 기네스북에까지 등재되었다. 한편 ‘강남스타일’은 영국음반차트에서 3위에 오르며 유럽에서도 다르지 않은 인기를 입증했다.

이날 3시로 예정된 기자회견에서 지금까지 이룬 바와 앞으로의 계획을 밝히는 것을 시작으로 그는 다수의 콘서트와 광고촬영 등 보름간 바쁜 일정을 소화할 예정이다. 한편 싸이는 오는 10월 중순 다시 미국으로 가 이후의 활동을 계속할 계획인 것으로 알려졌다.
