17 ambassadors, consuls named

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Wednesday appointed 17 new ambassadors and consul generals to lead diplomatic missions to 20 nations and two international organizations.

The new 17 ambassadors include former Deputy Minister for FTA Choi Seok-young and former First Vice Foreign Minister Park Suk-hwan.

Choi will now serve as the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the U.N. Secretariat and International Organizations in Geneva, while Park will lead the embassy to the U.K.

In addition, the Korean embassy in Germany will now be headed by Kim Jae-shin, Lee Hye-min has been appointed as the Korean ambassador to France.

Former chief of the Korean National Diplomatic Academy Lee Joon-gyu has been appointed as the ambassador to India, while former Vice Minister of Education, Science and Technology Lee Sang-jin will represent Korea at UNESCO.

In addition, the ambassadors to Brazil, Greece, Iran. Libya, Slovakia and the Philippines have also been newly appointed.

The five consulates with new consul generals are in Kobe, Japan; New York, Mumbai, Istanbul and Irkutsk, Russia.
