Police said Wednesday they suspect a local obstetrician injected his secret lover with a mixture of drugs that caused her death before abandoning her body.

The 45-year-old obstetrician, surnamed Kim, was arrested last week on charges of abandoning the body of the 30-year-old woman in a Seoul parking lot after she suddenly died from getting the shots, according to the Seocho Police Station.

The doctor allegedly called her to his clinic late at night on July 30 and injected a mixture of 13 kinds of drugs, including a glucose solution, a sedative and anesthetics.

"Experts say chances are high that injecting such drugs at the same time could cause death from difficulty in breathing," an officer in charge of the case said.

The doctor told police he gave her the drugs because the woman asked for them to help her sleep, adding she had been conscious for some 15 minutes after the injection, but suddenly died despite cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Police, however, said they could not find any physical evidence of whether Kim intentionally killed the woman, with the autopsy results failing to spot the exact cause of her death.

"We will send the case to prosecution tomorrow with charges of abandoning her body along with charges not for murder but for professional negligence that resulted in death," the officer said, adding additional investigation is planned over his motives of the crime.

부인과 의사의 시신유기 사건과 관련, 숨진 이모(30ㆍ여)씨의 사망 원인이 애초 알려졌던 수면유도제 과다 투여가 아니라 여러 종류의 마취제를 섞어 투여한 데 따른 것으로 밝혀졌다.

이 사건을 수사 중인 서울 서초경찰서는 8일 피의자인 산부인과 의사 김모(45)씨가 이씨에게 영양제와 함께 수면유도제인 미다졸람, 마취제인 나로핀과 베카론 등 총 13종의 약물 섞어 투약해 이씨가 숨졌다는 내용의 수사결과를 발표했다.

애초 경찰은 김씨가 이씨에게 수면유도제인 미다졸람을 과다 투여해 숨진 것으로 추정했다.

그러나 경찰 조사에서 김씨는 베카론 등 2종의 마취제도 함께 섞어 이씨에게 투 여한 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이 약물은 동시에 투여하면 호흡 곤란 등으로 사망할 가능성 이 큰 것으로 알려졌다.

경찰 관계자는 "미다졸람과 베카론, 나로핀 등을 섞어서 투여하면 호흡 곤란으로 사망할 가능성이 있다는 게 전문가들의 의견"이라며 "꼭 혼합 투여해야 할 경우 인공호흡기 등 응급시설이 갖춰져 있는 곳에서 해야 한다"고 말했다.

수사에 참여한 마취과 전문의들 역시 나로핀은 심장을 정지시킬 수 있는 독성을 가진 마취제이며, 베카론도 호흡대체기 없이 투약하면 자발적 호흡을 멈추게 하는 위험한 약물이라는 감정 소견서를 보낸 것으로 알려졌다.

김씨는 경찰에서 영양제와 미다졸람만을 투여했다고 진술했으나, 계속된 추궁에 마취제 사용 사실을 털어놓은 것으로 알려졌다.

김씨는 경찰 조사에서 "이씨가 그날 유독 몸이 많이 피곤해 잠을 푹 자고 싶다고 말해 수면유도 효과를 높이려고 여러 마취제를 섞었다"고 진술했다.

그러나 경찰은 김씨가 고의로 이씨를 살해했다는 증거는 찾지 못했다.

경찰은 숨진 이씨의 뇌와 장기 등을 부검한 결과 직접적인 사인을 밝히지 못했으며, 향후 마약 투여 검사 등도 실시할 방침인 것으로 전해졌다.

이에 따라 경찰은 김씨에게 기존의 사체유기 혐의 외에 업무상 과실치사 혐의를 추가 적용해 9일 검찰에 이 사건을 송치할 방침이다.

이에 앞서 경찰은 숨진 이씨의 사체를 내다버린 혐의(사체유기)로 지난 3일 김씨를 구속했다.

김씨는 지난달 30일 밤 11시께 평소 알고 지내던 이씨를 자신이 일하는 서울 강 남구 병원에 불러 혼합 약물을 투여한 뒤 함께 있던 중 이씨가 돌연 숨지자 심폐소생술을 실시했지만 의식이 돌아오지 않자 시신을 내다버린 혐의를 받고 있다.

경찰은 또 사건 당일 시신유기 사실을 알면서도 아무런 조치 없이 한강공원에서 김씨를 차에 태워 귀가한 김씨의 부인 A(41)씨를 사체유기 방조 혐의로 불구속 입건 했다.
