The Korean pop market is dominated by idol groups, including Girls’ Generation, 2NE1 and Wonder Girls.

For new girl group A Pink, which debuted in April with the first album “Seven Springs of A Pink,” it will not be easy to survive in the competitive K-pop scene. However, it will differentiate itself from other girl groups by showing unique colors of the seven members, they said.

“If we say other girl groups have bold, primary colors, we have pastel tones. Because we’re relatively young, we tend to perform our age,” Hong Yu-kyung, 17, told The Korea Herald.

“We’ve had chances to watch rehearsals of other idol groups and we learn a lot from them,” said Jeong Eun-ji, 18, who is the main vocalist.

The other members of A Pink are Son Na-eun, 17, Yun Bo-mi, 18, Park Cho-rong, 20, Oh Ha-yeong, 15 and Kim Nam-ju, 16.

A Cube Entertainment, their management agency, has been promoting the girl group since March through a series of weekly cable program “A Pink News” on TrendE.

Son has been known to some fans of boy band BEAST, since she was featured as the lead female character for the boy band’s “Beautiful” music video. Park was also featured in the Japanese version of BEAST’s music video “Shock.”

A Pink members have been training under Cube Entertainment but debuted with A Cube Entertainment, a spin-off of Cube Entertainment.

A Pinks album “Seven Springs of A Pink” was produced by Super Changddaee, who worked on 2PM’s “I Hate You” and “Tired of Waiting.” Their vocal trainers included veteran R&B vocalist Kim Jo-han, who recently joined MBC’s program “I Am a Singer.”

After promoting their title song “I Don’t Know” for several months, A Pink has embarked on a new song, “It Girl” with more powerful and bold group dance, members said.

“It Girl” was composed and written by Kim Geon-woo, also known as Secret K, who wrote “That Man,” the soundtrack of SBS drama “Secret Garden” sung by Baek Ji-young and Hyun Bin.

“The follow-up song, ‘It Girl,’ tells of a girl directly expressing her affection toward a boy, which is quite opposite to the song, ‘I Don’t Know.’ The second song’s beat is faster than the previous one,” said Son.

Son, Kim and Hong currently attend School of Performing Arts, Seoul.

“We had thought we would not be really liked by female students but a majority of fans saying hello to us on our way to school are actually girls,” said Kim.
