Actor Cho In-sung was discharged from mandatory military service Wednesday after serving for 25 months.
Cho was honorably discharged from Pyeongtaek’s Osan Air Base at 10 a.m.
The popular actor who joined the Air Force in 2009 has been active as an honorary ambassador for the Military Manpower Administration. His last position as a serviceman was as sergeant in the military band.
Cho was awarded a certificate from the Air Force chief of staff on Monday for his role in boosting the public image of the Air Force, his agency said. He was the first person to receive a certificate directly from the chief of staff.
Cho’s fans gathered in front of Osan Air Base to welcome his return after his discharge. Foreign and local fans shouted his name and expressed their affection.
Cho made his debut in the popular daytime sitcom “Nonstop” in 2001 and gained wide recognition by starring in the TV drama “To Shoot the Star” in 2002. He won prizes for Best Kiss and Best Tears for hit TV series “Something Happened in Bali.” Movies starring Cho such as “A Dirty Carnival” (2005) and “A Frozen Flower” (2008) also became box-office hits.
It is expected that Cho will start planning for a role in a new movie after taking a short break.

연예인 조인성 "전역 신고합니다"
인기 연예인 조인성(29)씨가 25개월간의 군복무를 마치고, 4일 전역했다.
이날 오전 10시 10분께 경기도 평택시 공군작전사령부 후문 앞에 예비군복을 입고 모습을 드러낸 조 씨는 "아무 감정을 못느끼겠다. 부모님 얼굴을 뵈어야 (전역느낌)알 수 있을 것 같다"고 전역 소감을 밝혔다.
"군악대원과 헤어지는게 가장 섭섭하다. 많이 보고 싶을 것 같다"는 그는 "지금이 순간에도 군에 입대하길 잘했다는 생각이 든다"며 군복무 소감을 피력했다.
공군참모총장 표창을 받은 조 씨는 이날 국회 국방위 원유철위원장으로부터 감사패를 받기도 했다.
이날 부대 정문 앞에는 조 씨를 보기위해 일본과 대만에서 온 해외 열렬 팬과 국내외 취재진 등 100여명이 몰렸다.
조 씨는 10여분간 취재진과 열렬 팬들앞에 머물다 미리 대기하고 있던 아우디 검은색 승용차를 타고 서울로 갔다.
지난 2009년 4월 공군에 입대한 조 씨는 군악대에서 군악전문화병으로 복무한 뒤 이날 만기제대했다.
