President of Syrian Arab Red Crescent Abdul Rahman Attar was awarded the Grand Order Taegug by the Korean Red Cross President Yoo Chong-ha on Monday.
Attar, who came to Korea on Sunday for a four-day visit, has led the Syrian Arab Red Crescent since 1998 and contributed to a number of humanitarian activities in Syria and abroad.

He sits on the International Committee of the Red Cross along with the Korean Red Cross president and has done so since 2009. He serves as an executive member of the governing board of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Attar also is president of Attar Group, a business conglomerate in Syria.
During his stay in Korea, he is scheduled to discuss Korea-Syria Red Cross cooperation on diplomatic, financial and other matters.
