New KOGAS chief takes office

Lee Seung-hun was inaugurated as the 15th president and chief executive officer of the state-run Korea Gas Corp. on Thursday.

Lee said in his inauguration speech that natural gas was a stable and economic resource, and emphasized that the company must provide the gas safely as its basic mission.

He suggested blueprints on new energy industries using natural gas, and stressed that KOGAS should have a healthy financial structure and spoke of plans to improve them.

Lee, who became the new president and CEO as of July 1, is to serve in the position for three years. He majored in electrical engineering from Seoul National University and earned a doctorate in economics at Northwestern University in the United States.

He worked as a lecturer and professor at Seoul National University’s department of economics for over 30 years, and also as a director of the Korea Society for Electricity Industry Studies from 1998 to 2011 as well as the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Green Growth from 2013 to 2015.
