Animal welfare officials said 113 dead kittens were found during the search of two properties in California.

The discovery was made Tuesday as the Monterey County SPCA and Seaside police served search warrants at the two properties, Bay City News Service reported.

The company that manages the properties alerted the SPCA after finding dead kittens at the properties.

“It‘s very disturbing,” SPCA humane investigation supervisor Capt. Judi Adams said, adding all the dead felines were very young, “newborn, a day or a week old.”

SPCA workers also seized 51 live adult cats, all in poor health, on the properties, Adams said. No live kittens were found during the search.

Adams said SPCA workers also found the professionally cremated remains of 40 to 50 other felines, all of which had the names and dates of death.

Medical examiners did not yet know how the kittens died, Adams said. All of the living cats were brought to the SPCA.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. (UPI)

죽은 어린 고양이 100여 마리 발견돼


미 동물보호 당국이 캘리포니아의 사유지 두 군데에서 죽은 새끼 고양이 시체 113구를 발견했다고 밝혔다.

미국 몬터레이 동물 학대 방지 협회(SPCA)와 해안 경비대가 수색영장을 지난 화요일 받아 이 두 사유지에 대한 수색을 펼치는 과정에서 이와 같은 현장이 발견되었다고 베이시티뉴스서비스가 보도했다.

해당 사유지를 소유하고 있는 업체에서는 그곳에서 죽은 고양이들을 발견한 후 협회에 연락을 취한 것으로 알려졌다.

동물 학대 방지 협회의 조사 감독관 주디 아담스(Judi Adams)는 발견된 고양이들이 매우 어리며 일부는 태어난 지 하루 혹은 한 주 밖에 안된 상태였다고 밝히며 “매우 충격적”이라고 말했다.

협회에서는 이외에도 51마리의 고양이가 매우 열악한 건강상태로 방치된 것을 발견했다고 밝혔다. 이번 조사과정에서 살아있는 새끼고양이는 발견되지 않았다.

아담스 감독관과 협회 조사관들은 또한 전문적으로 화장 처리된 고양이과 동물의 잔해를 약 50구 발견했다고 밝히며 이들 모두 죽은 날짜와 이름이 적혀있었다고 덧붙였다.

아담스 감독관은 아직 새끼 고양이들의 사인을 밝혀내지 못했으며 살아있는 고양이들은 모두 협회 본부로 후송했다고 밝혔다.

현재 경찰조사가 계속해서 진행 중이며 이러한 행각을 벌인 용의자는 아직 검거되지 않은 것으로 알려졌다.
