Online gaming firm Nexon on Feb. 12 reported record-breaking annual performance for last year on the back of strong sales of online computer games in overseas markets.

Operating income jumped 9 percent on-year to 980.6 billion won (US$872.30 million) in 2018, and sales increased 8 percent on-year to 2.52 trillion won, the company said in a regulatory filing.

The continued popularity of online computer games such as “Dungeon & Fighter” and “Maple Story,” coupled with new mobile games such as “Maple Story M” in the global market, contributed to the results, the company said.

Revenue from overseas markets came to 1.78 trillion won, 71 percent of the total, in 2018, compared with 59 percent in 2016 and 66 percent in 2017.

It was earlier reported that Kim Jung-ju, the founder of Nexon, would sell a controlling stake in the firm’s holding company NXC, which is held by him and his wife, as well as related companies.
