"I think now is really the time for me to leave," Tak said.

In a text message to some reporters, he said that though he had intended to work at the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae for six months, that had been extended to more than a year.

On Friday, Tak hinted at his resignation by writing on his Facebook account, "I've been wearing clothes that do not fit for too long and walked too much on a path that is not comfortable. Honor to be forgotten and freedom to leave."

Earlier this month, he was fined in 700,000 won ($628) over illegal campaigning in last year's presidential election.

"The court ruling also let me make a decision to resign," he said. Tak, who previously organized K-pop concerts, played a role in organizing events for Moon's election campaigns and designed major promotional events at Cheong Wa Dae.

He visited Pyongyang in North Korea in late March to lead a South Korean art troupe as it gave performances for the success of the April 27 inter-Korean summit. (Yonhap)
