Posco, South Korea’s top steel supplier, has recruited 100 volunteers for its 12th undergrad volunteer group Beyond, which will officially kick off next month, the company said Wednesday.

The new members of Beyond will visit regions in need of help in Korea and overseas for the next eight months.

From July 11-19, they are scheduled to help construct five steel houses in four regions here, including Pohang, South Gyeongsang Province and Namwon, North Jeolla Province, the company said.

Steel houses refer to homes built with Posco’s self-developed world premium product PosMAC to improve the residential environment for those whose homes have been affected by fire or those struggling financially.

They will also head to Indonesia next January to support Posco’s steel village there, building houses and educating local residents.

As of last year, some 1,100 members of Beyond have helped build about 270 homes for minorities across different regions here and abroad, including India, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, the company said.

Founded in 2007, Beyond was the first undergrad volunteer group supported by the Korean conglomerate, with aims to foster future leaders’ understanding of cultural diversity and sustainable development.
