South Korean baseball club Hanwha Eagles said Wednesday they've signed American pitcher Jason Wheeler.
The Korea Baseball Organization club said it has inked the 27-year-old left-hander to a $575,000 contract, which includes $100,000 in signing bonus.
The Eagles said Wheeler has a good command of his four-seam fastball, slider and changeup.
Wheeler has appeared in just two major league games in his career, throwing just three innings and giving up three runs for the Minnesota Twins this year.
He has a career minor league record of 56-40 with a 3.74 ERA in 157 appearances.
Wheeler is the second new foreign pitcher for the Eagles this winter. Last weekend, they signed 26-year-old ex-big league hurler Keyvius Sampson.
For the 2017 season, the Eagles had a pair of major league veterans, Alexi Ogando and Carlos Villanueva, and they combined to go 15-12 in 39 appearances.
KBO teams can each carry up to three foreign players, and a maximum of two pitchers.
The Eagles have missed the postseason for the 10th consecutive year in 2017, and ranked eighth among 10 clubs in team ERA with 5.28. (Yonhap)
