Leaders of Korea, Vietnam to hold bilateral summit

DANANG, Vietnam -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in and his Vietnamese counterpart Tran Dai Quang will hold a bilateral summit in Danang this week, the South Korean presidential office Cheong Wa Dae said Friday.

Moon and Quang will hold their first bilateral talks early Saturday on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

The South Korean leader arrived here earlier in the day for the two-day regional forum that brings together the leaders of 20 other major economies, including China, Japan and the United States.

He is also scheduled to hold a bilateral summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday. Moon and US President Donald Trump held talks earlier this week when the US leader was in Seoul on a two-day state visit.

Moon is scheduled to leave Sunday for Manila, where he and Trump will attend the annual East Asia Summit, along with the leaders of 14 other countries, including Australia, New Zealand and the 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The regional summit will be followed by what is known as the ASEAN Plus Three summit, also to be held in the capital of the Philippines, involving the leaders of South Korea, Japan and China, in addition to those of the ASEAN nations.
