Netmarble Games, South Korea's No. 1 mobile game developer and publisher, said Tuesday its accumulated sales for this year neared 2 trillion won thanks to the global popularity of its latest game "Lineage 2 Revolution."

The operating profit for the third quarter came to 111.8 billion won, up 73.12 percent on-year, with sales logging 581.7 billion won, the company.

Revenue from overseas markets accounted for 71 percent of its total sales during the July-September, it said.

The mobile role-playing game -- which has gained considerable popularity after its release in Asia earlier this month -- became the most popular game in Japan since its launch in August. The game will further be unveiled in 54 countries, including the United States, on Nov. 15.

Revenue from Lineage 2 Revolution came to 262.9 billion won and the accumulated revenue is forecast to surpass 1 trillion won from its launch in 2016, the company said.

"Revolution is enjoying high popularity since the launch in 11 Asian countries including Japan and other game products in the North American region have led to a huge increase in revenue from overseas markets," said CEO Kwon Young-sig.

Shares of Netmarble closed at 188,500, down 0.54 percent, on the main bourse Tuesday. The third-quarter report was announced after the local stock market closed.
