Seoul may announce further sanctions on NK: official

South Korea may announce unilateral sanctions before US President Donald Trump’s visit on Tuesday, a high-level government official revealed Friday.
“The government has seen a need to introduce our own sanctions in line with the UN Security Council sanctions. We have been negotiating with the US on the matter, and the National Security Council has been reviewing the matter,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

“A number of plans were reviewed yesterday, and an announcement could be made before President Trump’s visit.”
The official said that the US has been requesting Seoul introduce its own sanctions as a symbolic gesture, and that Seoul has taken the same approach to the issue.
The official, however, drew the line at going beyond the UNSC sanctions, saying the measures reviewed by the government are within its boundaries.
