More than 9,000 PyeongChang Paralympics tickets sold domestically: organizers

Local organizers of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympics announced Saturday they've so far sold more than 9,000 tickets domestically, refuting earlier data released by a lawmaker who said only 0.2 percent of available tickets were purchased in South Korea.
The PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) said in a statement that 9,401 tickets were sold in South Korea for the PyeongChang Paralympics as of Tuesday, which is equivalent to 4.3 percent of tickets up for sale.
On Friday, Rep. Jo Seoung-lae of the ruling Democratic Party, who received the data from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said that only 457 tickets for the PyeongChang Paralympics were sold as of Oct. 17. The organizers, however, said the lawmaker's report didn't include the number of group ticket sales.
The POCOG said 8,902 tickets have been so far sold to groups.
For the PyeongChang Olympic Games, so far 341,327 tickets, or 31.9 percent of the available tickets, have been sold, POCOG said, adding that 180,794 tickets were sold overseas.
The Winter Paralympics will be staged in PyeongChang, some 180 kilometers east of Seoul, and its adjacent cities in Gangwon Province from March 9 to 18 next year. The event follows the Feb.
