Photos of Korea‘s traditional markets are being displayed in Seoul, offering a peak at the lives of ordinary people over the past few decades.
Jangteo Photo Club -- jangtae meaning marketplace -- is holding an exhibition at Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Jongro-gu, central Seoul from Wednesday to next Tuesday. The exhibition consists of photos taken by the club members, which encompass people from education, cultural and business circles and headed by former Dankuk University professor Lee Tae-ju.

“The objective of the clubs is to photograph the marketplace of Korea, which is the center of everyday people’s lives,” said Jeong Cheong-hwan, who is in charge of administrative duties of the club. This year‘s exhibition is the 16th of Jangtaeo Photo Club, which was founded in 2001.
Jeong said that in addition to traditional markets’ past, the club members will continue to photograph the present and future as well, documenting the changes that take place in the marketplace of Korea.
