President Moon Jae-in is expected to spend most of his holiday with family and friends, but also visit those who are unable to spend time with their own families due to their work or official duties, the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae said Friday.

The president is scheduled to visit a traditional market place to visit with people shopping for the upcoming Chuseok holiday, the office said.

He will also appear on a local radio station, not as president but as a special reporter to deliver reports on traffic conditions.
 

The three-day Chuseok holiday or Korean Thanksgiving falls on Tuesday through Thursday, but the government has designated Monday as a special, one-off holiday to make it an unprecedented 10-day holiday starting Saturday. Monday immediately following the Chuseok weekend is Hangul Day, another national holiday designed to celebrate the Korean language.

"The president also plans to personally call on some of those who are unable to take time off due to their work," a Cheong Wa Dae official told reporters. Such people may include armed service members, police officers or fire fighters, the official noted.

President Moon is also scheduled to take a two-day trip to a traditional folk village, a move partly aimed at promoting local spending. The exact location of his destination was not disclosed due to security reasons.

Cheong Wa Dae officials earlier said the president will spend Chuseok with his family, including his mother. (Yonhap)
