South Korea's foreign ministry said Thursday that it will this week unveil a roadmap to reform and renew itself after conducting a monthslong review of what needs to be done.

A task force was launched in July to come up with measures to tackle problems deemed to be hurting the competitiveness and structural health of the ministry.

"Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha will unveil the innovation roadmap Friday," ministry spokesman Noh Kyu-duk told a regular press briefing.

Since its launch July 11, the task force has been working to draw up comprehensive reform measures based on public opinion, internal proposals, and debates with an advisory body consisting of experts from civic groups, businesses and relevant government agencies.

In mid-September, the ministry unveiled part of the reform plans in which it promised to fill up to 30 percent of its chief overseas mission vacancies with outside people in the years to come. (Yonhap)
