Among the smaller companies that joined this week’s ITU Telecom World 2017 in Busan was a Korean tech firm, Samwon FA, which showcased its intelligent transport systems solutions and technologies.

Samwon FA is a producer of automatic fare collection systems for buses and urban rail transit as well as electronic payment solutions for retailers and parking lots.

The company’s all-in-one bus fare collection and management system collects fares from passengers, manages bus operations for drivers and provides bus-related data to operators, transport information centers, bus card issuers and drivers.

Data is transferred via location-based services such as GPS, Long Term Evolution technology and wireless local area networks, the firm said. Samwon FA’s bus information terminal is installed at bus stops to provide passengers with information on buses’ locations and estimated arrival times.

At the event, the firm also introduced its ticket vending and card reload machine, which allows passengers to purchase tickets or recharge their prepaid transportation cards.

“Based on our solid performance in Korea with a market share of around 50 percent in terms of geographical coverage, we now aim to jump into the global market,” Kim Tae-lyn, Samwon FA’s general manager, told The Korea Herald at the firm’s booth Thursday.

Samwon FA shipped 1,400 units of its bus management system to Panama City, 15,000 units of its passenger information monitor for taxis to around 50 states in the US and its automatic farebox to Russia. It is now in talks with the Kazakhstan government to supply its bus transportation card system to the country.
