Nighttime walk in Jeonju

One of the country’s most traditional cities, Jeonju is gearing up to host its first “Walk in Jeonju (Heritage Night and Heritage Story)” nighttime sightseeing and walking tour event.

From Aug. 12 to 13 and Sept. 30 to Oct. 1, Jeonju’s historic Hanok Village will welcome local and international visitors to attend its unique nighttime festivities. The upcoming event will include free outdoor performances, movie screenings and light shows, as well as moonlight tours to some of the city’s most popular attractions.

Some of the other festivities in Jeonju will include performances of Korean traditional dancing along the picturesque Jeonju Stream, Korean traditional opera about the history of Jeonju and an art installation at the historic Pungnammun Gate -- the only remaining gate of Jeonju Fortress.

K-Travel Bus summer promotion

Visit Korea Committee is conducting a summer promotion event for the K-Travel Bus service from July 18 to Aug. 31, offering travelers discounted rates.

Participants who reserve a trip with the K-Travel bus during that time frame via its homepage will receive a discount coupon worth $30, as well as an additional $10 discount for international students who present a university, college or language school ID card.

A drawing will also be held for those who post reviews of their experience with the K-Travel Bus during the promotional period. Prizes include iPad Minis, 100,000 won gift cards and cosmetics products.

Daegu Chicken and Beer Festival

The annual Daegu Chicken and Beer Festival is gearing up for another year of fried food goodness.

For those looking for food to be the main component of their summer celebrations, there’s none better than the highly popular “Chimaek” (Korean shorthand for chicken and beer) festival. Since its launch three years ago, the event has continued to grow in scale and has now become one of Daegu’s largest festivals. The promise of fried chicken and ice-cold draft beer was enough to attract roughly 1 million visitors last year, nearly doubling the previous year.

This year’s event will be held from July 27 to 31 and will feature a variety of programs, including a laser light show, movie screenings, a pool party and much more.

Busan Fireworks Festival

The annual Busan Fireworks Festival is gearing up for its 12th year, kicking off festivities Oct. 22 along Gwangalli Beach.

Along with its breathtaking fireworks display show, the festival will feature a myriad of diverse events, including live music and street performances. The annual festival is one of the city’s biggest and most popular events, attracting more than 1 million national and international visitors every year.

Although in the past the festival has been held for two days, this year’s festivities are slated to be held for one night only. For more information, visit www.bff.or.kr.

Busan Sea Festival

The annual Busan Sea Festival is gearing up for its 21st year, kicking off this year’s weeklong festivities on Aug. 1.

The festival was launched 20 years ago in an effort to promote the harbor city of Busan as a port-side tourist destination and was Korea’s first general ocean festival. The event has grown to become one of the city’s biggest festivals, offering visitors the opportunity to view and experience various cultural programs and performances. The festival will also feature a handful of star-filled concerts, such as the Cass Summer Concert, Busan International Hip-hop Festival, Busan International Rock Festival and 7080 Family Love Concert.

Busan Sea Festival will be held on five beaches throughout the city -- Haeundae, Gwangalli, Songdo, Dadaepo and Songjeong -- until Aug. 7. For more information, visit www.seafestival.co.kr.
