[THE INVESTOR] Network operator KT said June 30 that mobile on-demand music app genie, operated by its subsidiary KT Music, received an award at the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai, an annual mobile trade show.

GSMA, the organizer of the mobile trade show, evaluated mobile music apps in Asia, and KT Music’s app received top scores in a range of categories including user experience, quality of content, and technology advancement.

KT Music adopted the nation’s first 3-D audio effect solution for its music streaming service in 2013 and offered the world’s first mobile FALC streaming service in 2014.

The company also launched a virtual reality music platform, dubbed genie VR, in June 2016.

Around 7 million songs are currently available on the genie mobile app.

The operator of the mobile app plans to deploy big data for a music curation service and unveil a new user interface in July.

“KT Music will try to make efforts to meet the different tastes of consumers with the best music streaming services combined with IT and network technology,” said Kim Seong-wook, chief executive of KT Music.
