President Park Geun-hye will meet with her Norwegian counterpart, Erna Solberg, in Seoul next week to discuss bilateral ties, Cheong Wa Dae said Friday.

The meeting, which will take place on April 15, will be an opportunity for the two countries to expand bilateral ties and discuss issues surrounding the Korean Peninsula, the presidential office said.

Norway's prime minister will arrive in Seoul next Thursday for a four-day visit. It marks the first time the two female leaders will hold a summit meeting.

"This summit will substantially deepen ties between the two countries and serve as an opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various issues," said a Cheong Wa Dae official.

South Korea and Norway established diplomatic ties in 1959.

Bilateral trade between the two reached a record high of $7.4 billion last year.

Erna became the second female prime minister of Norway after winning the election in September 2013. The first female Norwegian leader was Gro Harlem Brundtland who served three terms in the post. (Yonhap)
