China inaugurated the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank on Saturday at a ceremony attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping and finance ministers from member countries.

With paid-in capital of $100 billion and 57 members, including South Korea, the AIIB is seen as a potential counterbalance to U.S.-led multilateral lenders such as the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.

China is the AIIB’s largest stakeholder with 30.34 percent, followed by India (8.52 percent), Russia (6.66 percent) and Germany (4.57 percent).

South Korea is the fifth-largest stakeholder with 3.81 percent.
