[Graphic News] Skin cancer getting more common in Korea

The number of patients with skin cancer in South Korea has grown at a rapid rate over the past five years, according to a study by Korean Dermatological Association.

The number of patients suffering from skin cancer in 2009 stood at 10,980, but it grew to 15,826 in 2013, showing a 44.1 percent increase for the five-year period.

Of the skin cancer patients, those with malignant melanoma, known as the most dangerous form of skin cancer associated with a higher mortality, also rose by 33.4 percent, with the number of cases increasing from 2,819 in 2009 to 3,761 in 2013.
