McKay Kim, who starred in season two of the SBS singing audition program K-pop Star, will officially make his debut in the local music scene this week as part of Shin Seung-hun’s new project aimed at cultivating budding singers.

Kim will release his first single “Angel 2 Me” on Friday, according to an announcement by Shin’s agency Dorothy Company Tuesday. An official black-and-white photo of Kim has been uploaded on the agency’s website as well.

Kim’s upcoming single was written and composed by Shin, who has been personally training and teaching him for the past two and a half years. It is significant that Shin wrote Kim’s debut single, as the veteran singer has reportedly never given his songs away to any other artist.

Shin first noticed Kim’s talent as a singer-songwriter in 2012 when the young singer was a contestant on K-pop Star 2. At the time, Kim garnered many fans as part of the 3-member team Raccoon Boys.

Kim later took up Shin’s offer to join his agency after the program ended the following year.

Though Kim is set to release a solo track this time, he will later be joining a new group whose members have yet to be announced, the agency added.
