“일본인 64%, ‘오염수 문제없다’ 아베 발언 불신”

후쿠시마(福島) 제1원전의 방사능 오염수 유출이 ‘문제될 것 없다’는 아베 신조(安倍晋三) 총리의 발언에 대해 일본인 다수가 불신하는 것으로 여론조사에서 확인됐다.

교도통신이 14∼15일 실시한 전국 전화 여론조사 결과에 따르면 아베 총리가 도쿄의 2020년 하계올림픽 유치가 결정된 지난 7일 국제올림픽위원회(IOC) 총회에서 오염수 문제에 대해 “앞으로도 건강에 문제는 없을 것임을 약속한다”고 말한 것을 놓고 응답자의 64.4%가 ‘신뢰할 수 없다’고 답했다. ‘신뢰할 수 있다’는 답은 28.3%에 그쳤다.

그러나 올림픽 유치가 호재로 작용하면서 아베 내각 지지도는 지난달(57.7%)에 비해 4.1% 포인트 상승한 61.8%로 집계됐다. ‘지지하지 않는다’는 응답은 8월의 25.6%에서 5.2% 포인트 떨어진 20.4%로 나타났다.

Japanese distrust Abe’s comment on nuclear safety

The majority of Japanese people expressed distrust toward Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s remark on the leakage at the No. 1 reactor at the Fukushima nuclear plant, a survey showed.

Abe tried to calm public jitters about the problem plaguing the nuclear plant, saying,“The situation is under control,” but his effort seems to garner little, if any, positive response among the Japanese public.

According to a telephone poll conducted on Saturday and Sunday by Kyodo News, 64.4 percent of respondents did not believe Abe’s assurance on safety and health directed to the International Olympic Committee on Sept. 7.

Nonetheless, Japan’s successful bid to host the 2020 Olympics boosted the approval ratings of Abe’s cabinet, up 4.1 percentage points to 61.8 percent.

Public support for Abe’s cabinet has climbed to over 60 percent since June.
