싱가포르에서 최근 화상채팅 도중 상대남성이 성적인 행위를 하도록 유도한 다음, 이 장면을 찍어 협박하는 사기행위가 급증하고 있다고 CNN 등 외신이 18일 (현지시간) 보도했다.

현지 경찰이 밝힌 바에 따르면, 이러한 사기꾼들은 먼저 매력적인 여성들을 동원해 페이스북 등 SNS사이트를 통해 남성들에게 접근한 다음, 웹캠 (컴퓨터와 연결해 인터넷 상에서 사용되는 카메라) 을 이용해 화상채팅을 시도한다고 한다.

이 여성들은 먼저 옷을 벗는 등 성적인 행위를 하여 상대 남성도 비슷한 행위를 하도록 유도한 다음, 이 장면을 녹화하여 피해자들을 협박, 돈을 갈취한다.

싱가포르 경찰이 밝힌 바에 따르면 이러한 협박건수는 2012년에만 무려 50건 이상 접수되었는데, 이는 2011년의 11건에서 네 배 넘게 증가한 수치이다.

경찰은 이런 피해사례를 피하기 위해서는, 낯선 사람들이 SNS 상에서 접근 하는 것을 주의해야 하며 개인정보를 이들에게 주거나 “남부끄러운 행위를” 하는 것을 삼가야 한다고 경고했다.

Singapore police report rise in cybersex scamming

Singapore police have reported a rapid rise in online scamming where women seduce men to into cybersex on webcams, and then blackmail them, according to U.S. news reports.

In such cases, female con artists initiate an online conversation with male victims and perform sexual acts in front of the camera, according to Singapore Police Force. The women would then invite victims to take off their clothes or perform sexual acts themselves, while recording the entire process.

Afterwards, the scammers would threaten to post the victims’ images or videos online if they do not pay up.

Singapore police said more than 50 cases of cybersex blackmail have been reported in 2012, up from 11 the year before.

In order to avoid being victimized, police warned Internet users to be on alert for strangers befriending them on social networking services, and to refrain from handing out personal information or “performing compromising acts.”
