A British man went on trial Tuesday on the charge of murdering his Korean girlfriend, the British media reported.

The 27-year-old man surnamed Jones allegedly killed 22-year-old Lee last April after “petty quarrels” at her apartment, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

According to prosecutor Gordon Aspden, the two got into a fight over house chores and drain hair, after which Jones strangled Lee to death.

The suspect reportedly said the death of the young Korean was unintentional.

“The outcome wasn’t what I expected, I didn’t expect that to happen,” Aspden quoted him as saying. He told the police that he had “completely lost track of time” while he was holding Lee’s throat.

Jones later hid her body in the apartment and fled to Bristol. There he confessed his crime to an ex-partner, who alerted the police.

Aspden said Lee, a South Korean native who was studying international relations and sociology at Aston University in Birmingham, met Jones at a Birmingham church in 2011.

The two often fought and had ended their relationship a month before the incident, Aspden said, and were trying to reconcile at Lee’s apartment the day before the murder.

현지 보도에 따르면 이 씨는 대한민국 출생으로 한국에서 자라나 버밍험 애스턴 대학에 유학을 와 국제관계학과 사회학을 공부하고 있었다고 한다.

그녀는 지난 2011년, 존스를 버밍험에 있는 교회에서 만나 교제관계를 이어갔는데, 두 사람은 잦은 다툼으로 인해 작년 3월 헤어졌다고 한다.

사건 전날에 두 사람은 이 씨의 아파트에서 만나 화해를 하고자 했으나 이것이 실패로 끝나 말다툼을 하게 되었고, 결국 살인사건까지 이어졌다.
