British spies planned to feed Adolf Hitler female hormones by injecting estrogen to his food during World War II, the Telegraph reported citing a historian.
“There was an allied plan that they would smuggle estrogen into Hitler’s food and change his sex so he would become more feminine and less aggressive,” said Professor Brian Ford of Cardiff University.
“Their research had showed the importance of sex hormones- they were beginning to be used in sex therapy in London,” he added. According to him, some spies were close enough to the dictator so as to actually be able to poison his food.
The agents chose estrogen because it does not posses any flavor and have no immediate effect, which can easily fool testers before handing contaminated food to Hitler.
Although the plot was kept confidential by the British government, the related information was recently declassified and came into hands of Ford, a war researcher.
Other novel ideas included gluing a Nazi military base to make soldiers stick to the floor, dropping boxes of poisonous snakes, or disguising bombs as cans of fruit the Telegraph reported.
The stories are to be published in Ford’s new book “Secret Weapons: Technology, Science and the Race to Win World War II.”

특히 스파이들 가운데 일부는 히틀러가 먹을 음식에까지 접근할 수 있을 만큼 그와 가까운 인물들이었다고 덧붙였다.
포드 연구원은 스파이들이 히틀러를 단번에 죽일 수 있도록 그의 음식에 독약을 넣을 생각도 했지만, 그에게 감식가들이 있다는 점을 고려해 에스트로겐을 사용하기로 한 것이라고 밝혔다.
히틀러의 전쟁을 멈추려고 영국 당국이 동원했던 다소 황당한 음모는 이것뿐만이 아니다.
영국은 나치 군인들을 말 그대로 땅바닥에 붙여서 전쟁에 나서지 못하게 하려고 나치군 진영에 접착제를 투하하는 방법을 검토하기도 했다.
이밖에 폭탄을 과일 통조림처럼 만들어 독일에 수출하는 방안과 상자 안에 독사를 가득 채워 나치 군부대에 투하하는 계획, 폭탄과 로켓포가 잔뜩 묶여 있는 거대한 회전폭죽을 선박을 통해서 나치군에 운송하는 방법 등도 거론됐다.
