POSCO chief to head engineering academy

POSCO chief executive Chung Joon-yang was appointed the new president of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea at the organization’s general meeting on Monday.

Chung replaces Kim Doh-yeon who will now head the National Science and Technology Commission.

The POSCO chief executive has been a full member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea since 2008, and will head the organization until Dec. 31, 2012.

At the meeting Chung said that as the National Academy of Engineering of Korea represents the country’s leading engineering and science experts from the academia and industry, he will do his best to serve as the bridge connecting the government to the society.

Chung also listed a number of areas he will concentrate on during his term as the president including improving communication between science and engineering-related organizations, and ensuring that the National Academy of Engineering of Korea’s policy suggestions are reflected in related policies of the next administration.
